Hawaii  | ||
In September we spent three weeks in Hawaii, first on Oahu, then Kauai and lastly the Big Island. We stayed in an Air BnB in Honolulu. The view from the 36th floor was amazing, overlooking Waikiki Beach. We enjoyed the drive along the eastern side of the island on Highway 72. The drive to the North Shore was fun. We stopped in Haleiwa to see the Big Wave Shrimp Food Truck. Guy Fieri made it famous about 8 years ago. We got there too early so visited with the owner and he took our picture. The hike through the Waimea Valley Botanial Gardens and waterfall was nice. Lots of flowers in bloom. We stopped at the Kahuku Sugar Mill for lunch at Giovanni's Food Truck. The shrimp scampi is garlicy and messy to eat, but delicious. Afterwards we had refreshing shaved ice. We took a tour of Pearl Harbor, seeing the rusted wreakage of the USS Arizona below our walkway. A touching memorial. | ||
