Death Valley  | ||||
We have always driven straight through Death Valley but never stayed to appreciate the beauty that is there. The Artist Drive is beautiful with its many colors. Badwater Basin is the lowest point in the Western Hemisphere. Zabriske Point is stunning. The 20 Mule Team Canyon Drive was fun. Dante's View was challenging with a 15% grade on the last quarter mile. We were 5000 feet above Death Valley, looking out at Badwater Basin. We could see Telescope Peak which is the highest point in Death Valley. We enjoyed the Golden Canyon Trail but it was very hot for this 3 mile hike. We definitely needed more water. We drove to Panamint Springs where we camped overnight. Then we drove to the trailhead for Darwin Falls. It is a one mile hike to the falls. We had to scramble up rocks at the end of the trail. It is a pretty waterfall that surprisingly flows year round. We drove from Panamint Springs to Bakersfield where we stayed one night. The drive along the Kern River was beautiful. | ||
