In November we took our travel trailer to Guadalupe Mountains National Park. We enjoyed taking several hikes. Our favorite hike was McKittrick Canyon because the maple trees were in full color. Devils Hall was fairly easy at first; then we had to hike up a wash to a dried up waterfall. Then we had to climb up steps to the hall.

We went to the historic Frijole Ranch to see the ranch house and school. The school had eight students. They hired a teacher for room and board, $30 a month and a horse.

The trail to Manzanita Spring and then on to Smith Spring started at the back of the ranch house. After our visit to the Guadalupe Mountains we traveled to Big Bend.

We had fun on our Big Bend River tour. We were hoping to raft down Santa Elena Canyon, however the water level was too low. So we put the rafts in west of the small town of Laquitas and floated through Colorado Canyon and Dark Canyon. We hiked (probably illegally) on the Mexico side through Corral Canyon, where there was a large rock corral used by vaqueros.

We loved the Chisos Mountains and the clouds were amazing our first day. We enjoyed hiking the Window View Trail with its stunning views and a variety of interesting plants.

Our favorite hike at Big Bend was the Lost Mine hike. The trail leads you up to a promontory with stunning views.

We stopped in a couple of small Texas towns. Marfa was the location for the movie, Giant. Outside of town is a huge display of the movie set.

We spent one night in Van Horn. We had fun walking around, taking pictures of the historic El Capitan Hotel.

We stopped at School House Point at Roosevelt Lake before driving home.
