When we left Port Hardy, we drove to Courtenay/Comox. Near Courtenay we stopped to see Nymph Falls. From Comox we took the Little River ferry to Powell River.

Pete and April, friends we made at the Calgary Stampede a few years ago, invited us to stay in their home. During our stay, Pete showed us around town. The largest paper mill used to be in Powell River. There are some old World War I and II concrete boats in the water which form a protective barrier around the mill. We also visited Mowat Lake and loved the lily pads covering Cranberry Lake.

One day John and I went on a hike around Inland Island Lake. It is approximatey 8 miles around the lake. We saw a lot of garter snakes, toads, squirrels and people on bikes.

Another day we went to Willingdon Beach where we walked the small trail, saw some old mill equipment and watched chainsaw carvers. A few days later we went to the Loggers Festival on the beach. Lots of fun.

Pete and April went with us to the small village of Lund at the end of the road near Powell River. We went on a boat ride to Desolation Sound. We saw bald eagles and seals. The views of the snow capped peaks in the Sound were beautiful.

We had a lovely visit to Powell River and Pete and April were wonderful hosts.
