We stayed in Coos Bay for the Annual Salmon and Coquille Tribal Cultural Celebration in early September. There were canoe races on the bay, salmon cooking on sticks surrounding the fire. There were demonstrations of weaving, beading and flint knapping and more. At noon we purchased salmon dinners. It was served with rice mixed with nuts and cranberries, a salad, and a small fry bread.

While we ate lunch we watched Doc Slider play various flutes, most of which he built himself. The Pow Wow dancing is always fun to watch; the dancers swirling around in colorful costumes.

During our short stay we drove to nearby Charleston to buy fresh fish. We purchased halibut, cod and ling cod. Our freezer was full of fish!
