We arrived in Shanghai in the early evening. We stopped on the "Bund" which is the area along the river. When we got to the Shangri-La hotel we were stunned by the view from our room on the 58th floor. What a view!

The next day we went to Yu Yuan Garden. It is in the shopping area in old Shanghai. The buildings are in the old pagoda style. A Mr. Lin built the garden for his family. It is a quiet retreat in a bustling city.

In the shopping area we saw a Starbucks, a Dairy Queen and McDonald's. Evidence of America coming to China.

We toured the Shanghai Carpet Factory. The rugs are woven from silk thread. The women who do it make it look easy. We were blown away by the embrodiery which was so delicate, intricate and beautiful. The pieces look like paintings. After a Mongolian BBQ in the restaurant at the factory, we had some free time to explore Shanghai. We went to the Jing'An Temple near the hotel. We saw people worshipping at the incense burners, and in prayer rooms. There is a huge silver Buddha in one of the rooms. On our way back we took some pictures of the department store window displays.

After another Chinese dinner at a local restaurant we went to see the Chinese Acrobats. Unfortunately we were not allowed to take any photos.

The next morning we flew to Guilin.
