2014 AIRSTREAM JOURNEYS
There are always a lot of things to do in Newport. Jeanne and her friend, Phil joined us on July 4th and we had a delicious meal at Nana's on Nye Beach. We enjoyed looking at the wood carvings near the beach. We went to the park at Yaquina Bay Lighthouse where we had a nice view of the bridge. We found out we have been pronouncing Yaquina the Spanish way "Ya Keena", but it is actually pronounced "Ya Quinna".
We had fun at the Lincoln County Fair. There were 4H animals and displays, a reptile exhibit, carnival rides, music, story telling and more. The most exciting thing was the Liv Fast Freestyle Motorcross performance. Three very skilled riders were doing twists, turns and flips in the air. Lenny, the Lithuanian, Jewish cowboy from Oregon had us laughing at his various tricks.
One evening we decided to go to the Newport Performing Arts Center for the play, "A Small Family Business". We thought it was going to be a live play and were surprised to discover it was a film, previously recorded live from London. It was an evening of laughter and fun.
We were fascinated by the fish and sea life at the Undersea Gardens. A diver interacted with the various fish and we learned more about their lives under the sea.
We walked around the boats on the docks and bought a 15 lb. tuna off the Ocean Lady "M" boat. It cost $3.00 per pound with a $5 fee for cutting it into loins. We got a lot of meals off that one tuna!
The Yaquina Head Lighthouse is usually covered by fog but we finally got a good look on a sunny day. We walked on the black cobble beach below the lighthouse and watched some seals swimming in the water.
Toledo is a small town just east of Newport. We went to their Summerfest and had fun watching the parade and the logging competition.
