2014 China Trip
Guilin (pronounced Gwee Lin) is a lovely small city in the southeastern part of China. Guilin means "forest of Sweet Osmanthus", named for the fragrant and small evergreen trees located throughout the city. The scenery around Guilin is limestone hills and rivers. We arrived in the evening and after dinner strolled in the lovely gardens at the hotel.
The next day we went on a cruise of the Li (pronounced Lee) River. The scenery was just stunning -- lots of hills covered with bamboo and other green plants. We spent two hours on the river. We saw rural farms, water buffalo, ducks and other birds. We saw many famillies on small water taxis, enjoying the lovely day on the river.
After our cruise we went on a walking tour of Yangshuo (Bright Moon) shopping center, had a delicious mango drink and did a little shopping. Wish we had more time to explore Guilin.
