2014 AIRSTREAM JOURNEYS
One of our favorite towns in Oregon is Corvallis. It is a college town with lots of activities. Although Corvallis has a population of 55,000 people it still has a small town feel.
We stay at Benton Oaks RV Park which is adjacent to the Benton County Fairgrounds. The RV park is lovely with a grove of tall oak trees. There are several walking trails near the fairgrounds. The Irish Bend Bridge walk takes you to a covered bridge and then along the Oregon State University Agriculture buildings. Since our last visit, the University has installed solar panels in two of the fields. The Bald Hill trail follows the edge of the forest and the OSU farm fields. There are many side trails to explore also.
We visited our sister-in-law and our niece and her family who live in Albany which is a short drive from Corvallis.
We drove to Mary's Peak, which is the most prominent peak seen from Corvallis. It is a beautiful drive through lush forest on Hwy 34. We hiked to the top for a gorgeous 360 degree view of mountains and valleys. The wildflowers were growing in profusion on the peak.
The Chintimini Chamber Music Festival is a week long series of concerts in Corvallis. The first half of the one we went to was classical string music and the second half was called "From Scotland to America". We wanted to see Tatiana Hargreaves, a talented violin/fiddle player. She and Rebecca Rebecca Lomnicky performed authentic traditions of fiddle music. We had seen Tatiana on a previous visit to Corvallis. We enjoy the many musical events in town.
Avery Park is a lovely place to spend time relaxing, walking the one mile trail near the river, and wandering through the rose garden.
