2015 AIRSTREAM JOURNEYS
From Taos we drove over the Rio Grande Bridge. There is an unusual community nearby, called Earthship Biotecture. Homes are made with recycled items such as tires and bottles. The homes are self sustaining and very unique.
As we pulled into Chama we stopped at a produce stand with orange pumpkins and red chiles. We relaxed in our hotel, the El Meson Lodge and headed for the train station in the late afternoon. The train trip goes through very scenic mountains and yellow aspens. At the end of the trip we got off the train for a delicious dinner. A John Denver look-a-like provided entertainment. We decided that if we do this trip again we would take it during the day so that we can see the scenery on the way up and back.
The next day we drove from Chama to Antonito, Colorado. The road parallels the railroad tracks in many places. We saw some wild turkeys and a doe jumping over a fence. All along the way we stopped to photograph the lovely fall colors.
We had lunch at the Dutch Mill Restaurant in Antonito, a cute and remote town. Evidentally a Dutch family once owned the restaurant but now they only serve Mexican food.
