2015 AIRSTREAM JOURNEYS
Jemez Falls and more...
On our way to Jemez we saw a hawk and tried to get a photo. It hopped from tree top to tree top and finally stopped. We also saw a flock of wild turkeys in a field. We set up camp at Jemez Falls Campground. We enjoyed our hike to the falls.
The next day we saw a stag, doe and two fawns as we were leaving the Jemez Falls Campground. The scenery on the way to Jemez Springs is amazing with granite mountains and deep red rocks.
We stopped at Soda Dam which is a most unusual phenomenon. The calcium carbonate has built up across the river, leaving a natural bridge. The build up is caused by a sulphur spring underground.
Jemez Monument was closed but we took some pictures of the pueblo ruins and church from the road.
There was more amazing scenery as we drove south. We took Hwy 485 to the Gilman Tunnels, a remnant of the "chili train" in the 1940's. The scenery is stunning.
On our way back to Santa Fe the clouds opened up and the rain came down very hard. We hurried into Santa Fe under some light sprinkles.
