Sunrise RV Resort at Clints Well backs up to the National Forest. Calling it a "resort" is a stretch, but it is a clean, quiet park. We stayed there from May 18 to June 18. The first week the daytime temps were in the 50's and it dropped down to the 30's at night. We often saw elk there.

We went on several scenic drives on nearby forest roads and we enjoyed hiking through the Ponderosa Pines. Our favorite hikes were at East Clear Creek. It is a beautiful area with sandstone rocks, wildflowers and of course, the creek.

We spent one weekend in Flagstaff. We had never been to the Museum of Northen Arizona and were amazed by the beautiful Native American pottery and jewelry. We had fun on our Alpine Pedaler pub crawl. We pedaled to three different pubs and our favorite beer was the Strawberry Blonde at the State Bar.

We tent camped at Long Lake where we used to camp and fish with our boys. We tried fishing but the lake is very shallow and muddy; not like it used to be.

We had heard about Rock Art Ranch near Winslow and decided to drive up to see it. You have to make reservations for the tour. The ranch was once the Aztec cattle ranch. It fell into the hands of the Hash Knife Gang and is now run by Baird Brantley and his family. We toured the ranch buildings and then drove to see the hogans. From there we drove to the edge of Chevelon Canyon.

Chevelon Canyon, once the home of the Anasazi people, runs through the ranch and is filled with thousands of petroglyphs. The canyon is beautiful and has only one access point. Baird built a staircase to go down into the canyon. Once in the canyon we could hike around on our own. Many of the petroglyphs are quite unusual and the pools of water are lovely. We enjoyed our time there immensely.

In Winslow we spent the night at the historic La Posada Inn. We had an amazing dinner at the Turquoise Room. We enjoyed wandering around the inn, looking at the eclectic collection of artwork. The patios and gardens are beautiful as well.
