Acoma Pueblo, near Grants, NM was built in the 1600's on a high mesa. Five "Peace Keepers" live in the pueblo year round. Various ceremonies are held at the pueblo during the year. The buildings are replastered occasionally to preserve the pueblo. The kivas are square with huge ladders. There is no running water or electricity in the pueblo. We spent some time in the cultural center and then went on a tour of the pueblo. The church at Acoma has paintings of the stations of the cross, painted by the Friar in the 1600's.

Grants used to be the "carrot capital". We browsed the Route 66 Vintage Museum which had a display of post cards and other memorabilia.

The Pyramid Trail is accessed at the Red Rock Park, east of Gallup. The hike is 3.5 miles up to the top of Pyramid Rock. There are beautiful views of Church Rock, the valley and various rock formations. From the top there is a 360 degree view, looking down on the red rock bluffs.
